UO vs. Lumicon RA finders

Posted By ken pfeiffer

I am looking to get an 8x50 right angle finder
for my 8" SCT. Does anyone have any experience
with the quality of the University Optics vs.
the Lumicon finders?

Also, the 80mm finders look interesting. Any
comments?

Where to buy TV eyecups

Posted By ken pfeiffer

Anyone know where you can buy the rubber eyecups for TV plossls? I have a 32mm that sits on a telescope in my window, and the eyecup has been destroyed by the sun. I would like to replace it because it really helps the view.

I would appreciate your help! Thanks.

Is anyone familiar with the Celestron
VistaPix binos/camera?

I was thinking of getting some
for my wife, but I wanted to get
some feedback.

Any comments are appreciated!

Stellarvue 115

Posted By ken pfeiffer

Has anyone seen the Stellarvue 115 apo?
I am wondering how it compares with a
"real" TMB 115, in build and optical quality.

BTW, does anyone know what happened to Tom
Back? I heard he had surgery, and his website
is down.

Canon cameras

Posted By ken pfeiffer

I have an older Canon EOS Elan film camera, and I am considering getting a new Canon Digital Rebel so I can use it for astrophotography.

Does anyone know if I can use the lenses from
the EOS on the Rebel? Thanks for any info with this.

Re: Ultima 2k vs Nexstar 8i - Which to keep?

Posted By ken pfeiffer

How are the optics on your U2K? I have one, and when properly collimated it is the best 8" SCT I have seen. It even outperforms a fellow club members C-9.25. I noticed that Ed Ting found it to be one of the better scopes he tested.

How about your other scope? I would keep the one with the best optics, but I would make sure both were really well collimated when I did the comparison.

Re: tele-vue or konig

The TV 32mm is my most used eyepiece. I have compared it with many other eyepieces of similar focal length, and I find it is really bright, sharp, and clear across the FOV. You can't go wrong with it. Also, I agree that the 30mm Ultima is really excellent. I have a couple I use in my binoviewer, and if you are ever going to consider a binoviewer you should go with that, as it works better for me in the binoviewer than the TV.

William Optics Binos

Posted By ken pfeiffer

Has anyone tried the new William Optics 8x42 APO binos? I am intrigued by the APO designation - makes them sound like some high end sweeties at a good price (!). Just wondering how they perform.

No more small TMBs

Posted By ken pfeiffer

It looks like Tom Back will no longer be producing any smaller APOs, at least for a while. I had enquired a while ago about a new TMB 105, but I was just informed that he will be concentrating on 7" and larger. Nice, but certainly not within my budget, or the limits of my increasingly frail body.

Fortunately, Stellarvue is still making smaller scopes with lenses from the same supplier as TMB, and I see they just added a 130mm to their line up. Hopefully ATWB will start stocking these, too!

Re: Murphy's Law of New Equipment

Ain't that the truth! I just got the mount I have been waiting five months for, and now it supposed to rain indefinitely.

Sigh...
