Old equatorial mount

Posted By Lawrence Treptow

Can anyone help me identify this mount? It maybe from the 1950's or the 1940's or maybe anytime between then and now. It was found in a old shed. It was in very poor condition. It is made of solid aluminum, brass and steel. The RA shaft and the Dec shaft are 1.25". The motor turns at 1 RPM. The brass RA and Dec controls are easy to use and are accurate. It could possibly have been a kit. The strap indicates that the tube size for a 6" Newtonian. Any help would be appreciated.

antique telescope

Does anyone know of any books on classic or antique telescopes, or an internet site where I could find such information? With all the different manufacturers out there it seems someone would have written a book or compiled a list. Does anyone know of a telescope museum? I would appreciate any help. Thanks Larry

Can I as a member, ask about experiences good or bad about a specific vendor or repair shop? If not what is the best way to find out about a specific vendor or repair shop? Can we comment on experiences about specific vendors or repair shops?

I'm sure this has been asked before. Does anyone know what type of black paint(enamel,lacquer,urethane...) is used for all the painted Unitron parts(mount, top of tripod, pier ect...)?
I would like to do it right. It would be great if someone knew the manufacturer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Larry
