First-timer: 6" f/7.7 Newtonian

Posted By David Collins

Cloudy weather at home has given me the time lately to put up a website on my first attempt at telescope making:

I made the website with family and friends in mind; but think beginners in search of encouragement might like it too: my previous woodworking project was maybe forty years ago as a cub scout, and I'm new to amateur astronomy too.

A shout out of thanks to the atm workshop of the National Capital Astronomers in Chevy Chase.

Hope you enjoy.

progress on my first mirror

Could I ask how many hours of actual grinding you've done. I just got my hands on a 12.5" pyrex blank and am starting to wonder how many hours of pushing glass I've got in front of me. This'll actually be my second mirror. I did a 6" f/8 last year, and it took - from grinding to figuring - 45 hours or so.
