I expect to be at the south rim for the duration, along with Elaine Osborne and her granddaughter Laura.

larger dobs and finders

Posted By Joe Bergeron

I think every telescope benefits from an optical finder, even smaller ones. Just last night I was using my 92mm refractor to look for a faint cluster with only the help of a Rigel Quikfinder. Even though I knew the cluster's location to within a degree or so, I had to hunt around quite a while with only the imprecise guidance of the Rigel. With an optical finder in addition I could have zeroed in on the correct starfield much more easily. Right angle correct image finders are the best.

Roland...if you promise to quit messing around with Photoshop, I promise not to try to make any telescopes.

Where does all that dust come from?

Posted By Joe Bergeron

Maybe your dust consists of tiny particles from the flocking.

Double cluster with 160EDF and ST11000

That's a pretty strange looking image, Roland. The stars (the white ones anyway) all appear to be about the same brightness, giving the impression of a field of speckles rather than stars. It looks more like the result of manipulating the Photoshop noise filter than an astrophoto. Just my perspective as a space artist...

TV-76/TV-85 vs. 6" Reflector w/Royce Mirror

Posted By Joe Bergeron

The 6" will absolutely outperform either of those refractors. It's a huge aperture advantage.
