Lunar Photometry

Posted By Joe Bergeron

Yes, it's about Roland's scopes. If anyone here is doing anything as esoteric as lunar photometry, I'd be surprised. More power to you.

Amart auction AP Traveler

I would say it's because a couple of people have some money and really want the scope. Just because the economy is bad doesn't mean everyone has gone broke.

BIG CANYON, little telescope

Actually this was probably the worst GCSP for weather I've ever seen. We had only 3 really good nights, a couple marginal ones, and at least 2 total washouts. Typically we have 8 clear nights in a row, or at worst lose one or two to clouds. But I understand things back East haven't been so hot either.

nearly-new GTs available

It shows 93% of the resolution of the 140, and 86% of the light grasp. Compared to the older 130, the views are pretty much identical.

Of course, that's just a guess.

I was wondering why the tube and dew cap looked like simple white rectangles without shading or perspective. Then I clicked the link and realized that they actually have square cross sections. No wonder the photo looked so fake. :-)

Blast from the past!

Yup, that's a 706 mount all right. Looks like your scope has the old Jaegers focuser. That's probably the big weak point of this particular OTA.

Oil-spaced Refractors and Solar Observing

Nope. What heat? With a reflective filter like yours, there will be no discernible heat buildup behind it.

Interesting. You could eliminate the reddish cast by setting a custom white balance, couldn't you?
