Fire in the Sky

Posted By Bob Chester

Great 360º display of the Aurora here in Minnesota tonight.

All photos were done with a CP4500. Unfortunatly I was in a southern suburb of Minneapolis and heavy air traffic ruined most of the early shots untill I returned to my rural home.

This first shot was taken about 6:05 central time 14.5 sec at iso 100

Homage to Duke

Posted By Bob Chester

Dave Grusin's 'Homage to Duke' is a great collection of new arrangements of some of Ellington's best known tunes. Probably the best recording of an upright bass I've heard and a unique ballad version of 'A Train'.

Good stuff.. highly recommended.

Mark,
The TV 32mm plössl provides the largest true fov in a 1-1/4" eyepiece. To get a larger true fov you would need to move to a 2" eyepiece.
The TV 24mm panoptic provides the same true fov as the 32mm but with higher mag and a little darker sky background and is also 1-1/4".
If you don't have a 2" focuser either eyepiece would be a good scanner.

Pelicans on Ice

Posted By Bob Chester

As the ice clears off the upper Mississippi the bald eagles return. Eagle spotters were pleased with the arrival of a pair of pelicans to enhance the view.

Feathertouch TRF (Tak Retro-Fit)

Posted By Bob Chester

Hi all,
I just noticed that Starlight Instruments now makes a Feathertouch pinion assembly for the Sky90 and FS102.

I own the FS78.

The FS78 and Sky90 use the same focusers, right?

Herb, you gonna stock these at ATWB?

Really a tough call, but this vintage (1938?) Jag would make my list.

Out testing the new drives

Posted By Bob Chester

I replaced the AC motors of my home made mount with one of the Losmandy digital drives that have been selling on a-mart. Thanks to all of you who have been upgrading to Gemini. Here I am testing it out with the little home ground 6" f6.5.

I hate it when that happens

Last night I inadvertently bumped the exposure time dial on my camera and then spent 45 minutes guiding a 1 second exposure. Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrgh.

Astro-Physics has an acrobat reader document on thier site describing how to make a solar filter using the Baader solar material.
Kendrick has the best price for the Baader film.
