JMI EV focuser drawtube OD

Posted By Bob Chester

Does anyone know the OD of the JMI EV drawtube. I would like to replace the drawtube of my very old JMI focuser and am wondering if thier newer drawtubes would work. No specs on thier web site and no response from my e-mail.

Thanks,
Bob

Observing sites near South Seattle

Posted By Bob Chester

Any one in the south Seattle area know of good observing sites that don't require overnight stays.
I'm looking at Rattlesnake Lake, any one been there? Do you just set up in one of the parking lots? I'd like to keep the drive less than one hour from the Renton area.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bob

Totality from north of Madras Oregon

Posted By Bob Chester

Drove 5 hours in the middle of the night to get to the 'zone' in Oregon.
Took 9-1/2 hours to get home. I hate traffic. Was it worth it? Yes! My first total eclipse.
My humble offerings are frames taken from a video I took during totality.

I'm impressed and jealous of the great images you guys are posting.

Ebony Star Formica is most commonly used on the bottom of the rocker box and three pieces of teflon on the top of the ground board. Bearings turn too easily and tend to make the scope behave as a weather vane. Place feet of ground board opposite teflon so weight is transfered directly to the ground. For altitude bearings, I've had good luck with a slice of plastic water pipe filled with a wood disc riding on two pieces of teflon. Experiment with the spacing of the teflon to find a 'feel' that you like.

Does a thin, 8" mirror need central support?

Tom
I'm a believer in "if it ain't broke don't fix it".Besides, an exposed mirror will acclimate faster and a metal plate ,lossing heat behind it, may worsen its performance.

Boy, those are a nice couple of scopes. So, does Milo prefer dso or planetary observing? He seems to have the best of both worlds.
Please don't tell me those photos were taken recently. We had snow again on Friday.
