Eyepieces won't come to focus

Posted By John Kuhl

It might be the Televue 1.25" adapter. I have a couple of these and they will raise the eyepiece, making the eyepiece farther from the mirror. Get a flat 1.25" adapter that will lower the eyepiece. That extra 1/4" to 1/2" will give your eyepiece more in travel and should allow your eyepieces to come to focus.

Parka ?

LL Bean makes what they call their Baxter State Parka. It is rated to -50, this is one of the best parkas you can get. I think it is $200.

I've had my Tak FS102 for 10 years now. I have never had a problem with it, and the views through it are great. This is one of the few scopes I have had that I never felt I needed to upgrade. Unless I drop or damage it beyond repair I will never be without it. As far as the front element being fluorite, you have nothing to worry about.

losmandy G11 vs Celestrons CGE

Posted By John Kuhl

The resale on the Losmandy G11 will be a lot higher than the Celestron CGE. Plus you can a very large range of extras for the G11 that are not available for the Celestron.

I also have a 14.5" Starmaster that I use with the Denk II binos and power switch. I very seldom use anything but the 24 Panoptics.

Joe, Bang for buck I feel this is the best APO on the market today. I have one of the first ones made, and it is second to none. Anyone who gets one of these scopes will not be dissappointed.

I would get the Discovey. I have had 3, and still have one. They are very good scopes. They are made in America not China. Plus Bill and Terry of Discovery are great guys.

Cleaning mirrors with alcohol.

Posted By John Kuhl

I like Floyd and others have always used just the soap and water method to clean my mirrors. I also have always heard that you should never use alcohol on a mirror, and I don't. However when I got my new 20" Starmaster with a Zambuto mirror that has Nova coatings I was shocked to find that Steve Dobbs of Nova recommends using Isopropyl alcohol for "very dirty mirrors". I wonder why he would say that it is okay to use alcohol?
