Secondary Size

Posted By John Kuhl

Stevens use to work for Carl Zambuto, and Zambuto mirrors are in Starmaster telescopes. My 14.5" f/4.3 Starmaster scope uses a 2.6" secondary mirror. That is the size I would use. Good luck on your project.

Narrowband and O-III filters

Posted By John Kuhl

I vote for the Astronomik filters. They are the only one that has been able to keep up my old Lumicon filters. The new Lumicon filters are not as good as the old ones were. Of course try before you buy, if you can.

Thanks all for the advice.

Good luck with the new scope. I'm still finding it hard to believe that you are getting a refractor. I never thought I'd see the day.

Heat Shrink - Stove

Posted By John Kuhl

Hi Bill

Does the heat shrink tubing shrink in its length at all? Or does it just shrink around the pole? The reason I ask is in the picture it is a little longer than the pole.

My New scope!

Posted By John Kuhl

Very nice looking setup. I hope it works as good as it looks. For a 5" scope it seems big.

Regarding William Optics FLT 110...

Hi Scott,

Who has the Vixen 115 for 2K? I looked at Anacortes and another Vixen dealer, they both are asking 3K for the 115.

Is GOTO worth it?

Posted By John Kuhl

Hi David,

GOTO is nice, but. For the cost of a GM8 with GOTO you could get a G11 without GOTO, and have money left over. I think the G11 would be a better mount for a 10" SCT anyway. I also feel a GM8 is a little small to do astrophotography with a 10" scope. Just something else to think about.

painting the inside of the mirror box

To keep paint from bleeding under the masking tape I put a coat of clear along all the edges to seal it. Never had any bleeding with this method.

New (?) SV 60mm Finder

Posted By John Kuhl

I have a 60mm finder on one of my scopes. It isn't a SV, but I can tell you that it shows a lot more than a 50mm. Plus it is only a little bigger. If you are looking for a finder I feel this is a great size to get.
