I like Orion Observer 70, my 8-inch Dob, and even my little 50mm Celestron. They all offer a lot of value for the money and let me see far away objects just fine. However, when I return from exile, I will get filthy rich and buy all Televue optics. Heck, I've got a lottery ticket in my wallet. I should really check it... wink

Not doubt they offer a lot of value and performance for the money. An 8 or 10 inch Dob and a small refractor, that ought to be able to keep someone occupied for a lifetime. It is my belief that the most important part of the equation is not the equipment but rather the observer. With a positive attitude and an interest in exploring the night sky, you've got what you need.
