There are more Chinese scopes and sellers of them than ever and more comin' every day. So why is this formerly intersting forum dead? Is it just that Chinese scopes and their importers are now mainstream?

Are the Chinese imports now the name brand products? I suspect in a lot of cases that is true.

This forum used to have a different name and was brand specific. It had it's lively moments back then but when the name was changed this seemed to slow down. Chinese Optical Imports seemed to be a euphemism to avoid directly referring to the previous namesake.

There is no doubt that Chinese scopes are mainstream. The question in my mind is whether there are any other countries other than China and Taiwan that might be considered mainstream... Japan maybe???

When almost anything you buy has its origin in China, I guess you just get callused about it?
I have a Chinese made AstroTec 8" Ritchey-Chretien, which I am finding is pretty good. So maybe they are begining to build better scopes?

Now that 10% of the country is unemployed. We feel guilty about owning Chinese scopes. Not that we could ever afford American-made scopes, but still...

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

I would say 95% of the scopes being made out there today have at least some parts that were either made in china, japan or mexico.
