Has any one been able to capture and display real time video from a PST or other Coronado telescope? I would like to display real time pictures of the sun on a TV or other monitor. Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks
Bill W.

Hello Bill

The easiest and cheapest way is to purchasing a Meade electronic eyepiece for this project. The MEE gives really good views of the Sun's surface in real time to your TV or monitor. I used a TV/VCR combo with my setup.
Attached is one example of what I did with mine. Hope this helps you.

Regards, Arthur

Hi Bill,
I have been capturing live video for the past year or so with the Meade EE. It is great. I have captured everthing from spots to proms to planes. Yes, planes look real neat going across the disk of the sun. I capture the frames to a mini DV tape and use an video editing program to cull down what I want to save, sharpen the image and add color. It is a perfect teaching tool also if your having a solar education day.
I also use the frames to make still images. I have included one with this post. It is 600 frames stacked of sunspot 940. Enjoy! Alan C.

I use a portable TV/VCR running off my truck battery and tape on VHS on good days. See my PST review here on Astromart for more comments. A MEE is about the best $35 (the going rate here on AM) you'll ever spend. I have 3 MEEs for class and public sun gazing through filtered scopes and the moon, Jupiter, and Saturn.

Also, I went to RadioShack and bought a 12-foot 3-head RCA patch cord (red, yellow, white). I then separated the 3 cords and have twice the reach with shielded cables.
