I have a tak mount, the EM10USD and its weight limit was stated around 15, 16 pounds and is usually used for 4 inch refractors and smaller. I happen to have a five inch f8 refractor, at about 16 pounds, + 2-5 pounds more for the finder and mounting plate. ( its probably over 19 pounds ) It works and tracks well ( so far )

can the gears be damaged from overloading this mount ? what is the most weight someone has used on this mount ?

You are fine with this load for the EM-10. Tha actual load capacity upper limit is 25lbs with a short tubed telescope. A long tube creates a long moment arm that can cause vibration.

You are not damaging your gears, nor are you close to the limit. Enjoy your mount.
