I recently received an old Jena semiapo AS 80/1200 that was in a basement for decades. The owner belived it was from the 30's or 40's. How do I find out the actual age of this telescope. Can anyone help?

One way is to research old Zeiss astro catalogs where Zeiss telescopes were advertised.

www.achromat.de is a web site that has some details on older Zeiss telescopes.

I have a 1931 Astro catalog so if you want to post the photo I can try and identify the telescope for you.

Zeiss telescope development was gradual rather than sudden.

In earlier telescopes features visible in more modern refractors are common. e.g. turrets and prisms have the same basic design.

best wishes
