"I purchased this binocular in 2003 from a Japanese dealer, Kasai Trading, Tokyo, Japan, for comet hunting (Photo 1, 2). The dealer called this binocular Super-Bino 15x110, and it costs about 300,000 Japanese Yen (some 1,900 Euro) at that time. The binocular disappeared from the Kasais catalog at present, but they may deal in it. The original mane is 110x15 Binocular PNB-1, which is manufactured by Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant (NIMP), Russia, from where you can buy it directly. It is wonderful we Western people can buy such attractive Eastern products as they say in the Web Page; High level of skill in the optic producing, that was achieved in "cold war" years in USSR, now serves for the production of first-class telescopes. The manual states that you can operate this binocular from plus 50 to minus 50 degrees Celsius. Just only looking at this specification you know how sturdy this binocular is! Under such high or low temperature your body is in trouble before the binocular goes wrong.
Another 15x110 model with different type of mounting that has a 70 degrees maximum angle of elevation, PNB-2, is also manufactured by NIMP, but I opted for the present model, PNB-1, because it has a 90 degrees maximum angle of elevation; more suitable for astronomical use. As I mention later, this choice may not be correct.
The manual of this binocular is available via Internet. Basic optical and mechanical features are displayed in this manual with the Tables and the Figures, and please refer to it to read this article. The instrumental description hereafter is based on the manual and the catalogue of Kasai Trading issued in 2000."
