This hardbound by Neale E. Howard was originally released in 1959, and this is the revised edition, printed in 1984.
Nearly all the photos and definitely the drawings and illustrations are from the original. Some of the information is more updated, like the write he does on the Edmund Rank Kellners. Regardless this, A LOT of the art of homebrew telescope making in today's time is still heavily related in these pages.
The book will go into all depths of creating your own telescope; from grinding and coating the mirror, to constructing your cell, laying down the plans for an adequate observatory dome, to making a permanent (and fixed angle) equatorial mount. Eyepieces, optical traits, polishing methods, drawing, photographing, and focault testing are just a tiny fraction of the things dealt within this 356-pager. There are many, many useful and easy-to-relate drawings and grids to go by for visual confirmation. It is quite a WELL thought-out recipe for your perfect telescope.
Being a library book way back when, because it deals with advanced astronomy thinking, it was not the most popular bind to borrow; at least at this libary. And as such it has aged very gently. The original cover is fully intact and most the stickers/wear you see on the outer covers is stuck on the library's own clear, plastic sleeve. The hard covers themselves are nearly perfect and the spine is definitely perfect and firm.
ALL inside pages are mint with no note taking or highlighting or repairs; except for the last page in the back which still has the library check-out card pocket. The date on the top were the barcode is indicates when the book was retired from that library.
In this case, it was accepted into the library on July 25, 1985 and retired October 8, 1993.
All nations welcome to bid. Photos arriving soon.
