This auction is for either a 1961 or 1962 Tasco (Royal Astro of Japan) 7TE wooden carry case (trunk). It is complete to code and is missing none of the hardware, fabric tie-downs, or steel latches. The case is not the prettiest, but it is rigid and secure. And it will hold your vintage Tasco 7TE setup inside once that telescope model is properly deconstructed for such transport.
The carry trunk is of the 1st generation and predates the later 1960s model 7TEs in which the case would have steel hinges (this case has fabric cloth hinges) for supporting the lid (when in open position) as well as having sytrofoam inserts. Also, on those cases, the carry handle will be black, not morganite-pink.
It should be noted that this case was for the 7TE, not the 7TE-5. The 7TE was a 60mm f1000mm equatorial refractor whereas the 7TE was the slightly shorter and more common 60mm f910mm.
The good thing here is this case in this size will hold several other 60mm f/15 refractors (1957-1982) with their small EQ-1 and EQ-2 class equatorial mounts coming from Japan by the brands: Empire, Jason, Wetzlar, Towa, Von Werner, Holmar, Sans And Streiffe, Yosco, Orbit, King, Atco, Carton, Penncrest, Crescent, Sargent-Welch, Pallas, Milo, Hilkin, Monolux, Takahashi, and Shrine.
It should be noted that this case will not hold the like-sized Unitron 114 or 128 as those 60mm refractors are wider and their mounts and tripods were not only considerably bulkier, they had their own carry trunks for those components.
If you want to use this case for your vintage 60mm f700mm yoke altazimuth refractor, it will have NO PROBLEM holding ALL the parts and the telescope as these were shorter and smaller than the same-years equatorial upgrade units.
When looking inside, what is the box on the left?
That is the compartment for the equatorial mount's counterweight. Some will also unthread the front objective lens assembly of the refractor and place it in there. It is large enough to hold other accessories, like porro prisms, additional eyepieces, or spare hardware parts.
When looking inside, what is the long, rectangular box on the right?
That is the ocular accessory compartment. If you lift the lid, you will see (4) holes. Those were for the (4) .965-inch eyepieces: 20mm Ramsden, Huygens Mittenzwey 12.5mm, Huygens Mittenzwey 6mm, Symmetrical Ramsden 4mm. To the left of those holes, you would place your 2x barlow, and just above, in that square compartment, you'd place the 90 degree prism diagonal and your (2) threaded filters.
What is the green felt square with the odd black brace-and-rod?
That is where you fasten-down part of the equatorial head. Keep in mind these were for EQ-2 class Royal Astro heads, not the later years Towa versions, which have slightly squatter dimensions. These mounts also appeared on your earliest Sears, Jason, and JC Penney refractors.
Outside dimensions of this box in inches:
34.63 L x 11.56 W x 8.05 H
Made of solid mahogany with mahogany and pine inserts, and steel hardware.
Weighs exactly 12 pounds 10 ounces.
This case and all its internal compartments, separators, hinge locks, inside felt, and the stain on the wood is all original from Tasco with no repairs or modifications. This case is in excellent physical condition as nearly ALL of its internal compartment separators (wood pieces) are still in place. Only (2) small pieces have become loose from their original locations. The almost never surviving counterweight compartment and multiple ocular compartment-with-lid are in beautiful condition. The case hinges still hold and the lock clamps shut very securely. The seam and hinges are true all the way around. The carry handle is secure and holds solid. Cosmetics on this case are very good, but not great, as the wood is peeling in places and there are some minor splits. NO cracks or chunks of wood missing. This case WILL HOLD your full Tasco 7TE setup inside without fail. The rare-surviving Japan label just above the carry handle is in lovely, glossy condition.

Packed with great care. The inside compartment lids, the (2) loose wood pieces, and the loose fabric tie-downs have been placed securely inside padded envelopes inside the box so they cannot become or bring damage to the other inside pieces.
Shipping overseas will be expensive, but that being said; ALL nations welcome to bid.
