The body is finished in black paint and leatherette. Lens coatings have a purplish tint to them. Looking through the objectives, no internal baffling is apparent. Eyepieces rotate smoothly and easily even in cold conditions. The binoculars deliver tack sharp images across 85% of the FOV. My opinion is that they consistently out-perform 20x80's from meade, celestron, orion etc...I have been able to distinguish the rings of Saturn and belts of Jupiter without false color with a stable tripod. The build quality has a nice solid, metallic, industrial feel that is robust but not overly heavy for their size. There is no threaded socket for a tripod adapter. I will include the center hinge tripod mount that came with them but its usefulness is questionable. I will include the Nikon center hinge tripod adapter as seen in the photos that is the best solution I could find.

Davis and Sanford Model A Tripod

lowest position 38 inches

highest position 88 inches

center column 6 inches circumference

This tripod is designed for heavy cameras such as TV or motion picture, which is why it is spring loaded. This feature was called "Floating Action". It will support over 35 pounds and the spring is removable if you don't like the feature. Questar shipped a non-spring loaded model of the tripod with their scopes and Astro-Physics used to sell a similar version for the AP400 mount. The mount allows viewing from horizon to zenith for even the tallest of individuals. Purchased in 1995.

I will uncouple the items:
Binoculars for $250
Tripod for $100
