PRE-WINTER ASTRO GARAGE SALE
For sale is a Tele Vue Gibraltar head, mounted on a beautifully restored Vixen refractor length wood tripod, with a like new triangular metal accessory tray, and a like new (boxed) Tele Vue mount handle assembly. The legs of the tripod, when fully extended are about 54 1/2" long.
The Gibraltar mount head was purchased from the original owner who kept the ash tripod. The signs of use on the head itself are the typical marks where rings were attached to the saddle plate. (See last Photo.)
The original Vixen tripod legs were sanded down to the bare wood, stained a light cherry color, then finished with two coats of furniture grade polyurethane, which was sanded between coats with very fine sandpaper. The metal ends of each leg were refinished in a gloss white, with rubber protective tips.
So...the tripod looks significantly better than it did when new, while the head is in excellent condition. With the tray attached it is very stable and easy to set up and use.
Describing the outfit is easy, pricing it less so, since TV doesn't sell the head separately and heads by themselves don't show up on A'mart very often. A new Gibraltar mount from TV retails for about $700.00, and the legs are priced separately at $450.00 - so the head by itself, if available new, should be in the $350.00 ballpark. The handle assembly is about $50.00 retail. Taking all this into account, and the cost of the tray and wood tripod, I arrived at the above price, given my original cash outlays.
In the past, when I have sold larger items, I have typically offered to absorb 50% of the costs of FedEx Ground shipping with CONUS buyers. I am continuing to do that. A non-CONUS sale, given the packed weight of everything and the size boxes required, makes no sense given International shipping costs. You can pay through PayPal, or send a money order or a cashiers check.
I will be listing a number of other items for sale later today and tomorrow, to include one or two OTAs, several EPs, finderscopes, a binoviewer and lots of smaller items, by Vixen, Stellarvue, Tele Vue, Orion, Celestron, etc. Please check out my other ads over the next couple of days to see if anything looks interesting to you.
If you have any questions, please send me an email and I will answer you as quickly as I can. I answer all emails in the order in which I receive them. If I get lots of messages, the process can take a bit of time, so please be patient, particularly if I am in the middle of posting new ads! Many thanks for looking!
