Apparently, a recent engineering CO led iOptron to replace the beautiful vibrant red housing on their SkyTracker Pro with a dark, dreary black housing. The reason given was to acheive better tracking results in the sunlight.
Now, I could go buy a brand new the "post change order" SkyTracker Pro with the black housing at any one of a dozen distributors. It'd probably cost me 15 or 20 bucks more than buying a used piece and be alot less difficult. A double sawbuck is really an insignificant price to pay for the immediate gratification I'd get from an online retailer and the FedEx man. The trouble? I find the old red-housing model more appealing, and they aren't sold new anymore by any of the online retailers I've investigated. In fact, some will advertise the red one, and ship you a black one! Ask me how I know :-).
Soooo anywayyyy...I'd like to find one of the recently-discontinued red models to add to my carefully assembled collection of gear.
If you've got a well-cared-for red SkyTracker Pro you'd consider parting ways with, drop me a line. Hoping to do some grab-and-go Milky Way photography with my DSLR in July-August. Not bargain hunting...just looking for something very specific that I can't buy new anymore.
