This is a Criterion Dynamax 8” Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope made in the mid to late 70’s. Overall it’s in very nice condition for its age. The primary and secondary are clean and the coatings are very bright. The focus knob is buttery smooth with very little mirror shift. The corrector is blemish free and clean with just a little dust here and there. Cosmetically this rig is in excellent condition and throws up some very pleasing views. I had some good looks at the moon and Jupiter last night with a 9mm at 234x and the optics are on equal par with my Meade LX5 8” and Celestron 8”. It showed nice concentric circles both sides of focus. I removed and cleaned the corrector and made sure the mating marks are lined up properly.

The drive is in excellent working order having seen very little use. The red power light illuminates and the toggle switch is perfect. The manual DEC control is smooth. The MANUAL RA skips a little at a few locations around the dial towards the top. Much less so when the scope is mounted on the wedge. You’ll notice it more when you turn the scope far to the left. A little adjustment can probably remedy. The manual RA does not effect its accurate tracking. I disassembled the drive base, cleaned and re-lubed the manual RA. The motor tracking RA is in perfect order and the gears look unused. There are (2) synchronous drive motors.

This vintage setup includes:
-Criterion Dynamax telescope 8” 2110mm
-Matching 8 x 50 Finder scope (the chrome is flaking off near eyepiece)
-Fork Mount synchronous drive (power cord is perfect)
-Golden Pyramid Tripod (couple of dings and scuffs and one prong of the leg brace is missing but does not effect use, see pics.)
-Golden Pyramid Wedge
-Celestron Visual back 1.25”
-Orion Star Diagonal 1.25”
-Orion 25mm Plossl eyepiece
-Old Celestron foot locker style trunk (handle and lock non-functional but protects the scope just fine).

Asking $525 plus shipping, (2) boxes. CONUS only please.

I haven’t seen one of these in a while and it was fun playin with it. I have too many scopes and unfortunately I can’t keep every one I find.
