**UPDATE: I just saw on Mike Weasner's ETX site, RECENT postings of a FEW people (more than one) that purchased USED scopes marked as low priced GREAT DEALS, but ended up with OLD, DAMAGED equipment. Now they have to spend MORE $$ to FIX AND for the RIGHT observing accessories!

Astronomy Enthusiasts know that a tweaked out ETX-125 (5 inch diam Maksutov-Cassegrain) is the ultimate portable, grab-and-go choice for the amateur astronomer on a budget.


On the other hand, if you're looking to get into astronomy for the first time, or are looking for another more portable, feature filled setup or are looking to buy a complete setup for a relative, son, daughter or spouse, this is simply an incredible deal.


You could go out right now and buy a Brand New Meade ETX-125PE from a dealer such as Oceanside Photo & Telescope [OPT] (where I bought mine), for $999 and take your chances with Meade's current Build and Quality Control Process and then buy an extended warranty, all sorts of accessories at full price amounting to $2000 and more, or you could, instead, buy my gently-used, pristine, Supercharged and GPS-enabled scope with all the accessories you could desire, and pay just ONE DOLLAR MORE than the price of a new ETX-125 Scope alone.


Why is this scope "better than new"?


1. It has been totally Supercharged (optics calibrated and collimated, drive gears, motors and encoders modified, optimized, and precision lubricated/reassembled/tested) by Dr. P. Clay Sherrod of the Arkansas Observatory to operate at the absolute maximum optical and automatic alignment capabilities of this model of Meade's Optical Instruments. To quote Dr Clay directly from his examination and work on this scope, "in regard to the fine optics on this telescope, they are absolutely textbook, and the fresnel ring patterns are perfect....as good as any I have seen. Mechanically this scope is one of the best I have seen....the response when changing directions is always a bit sluggish on the ETX, but this one is excellent." 2. It has been GPS-enabled using a StarGPS-NX, so it is always "location and time accurate" for auto-alignment, just like the "big gun" scopes.

3. It is still covered by Meade's Sky Assurance Extended Warranty for another 1 plus years. That means buying this scope from me is 100% risk free! This warranty is 100% transferable to the buyer of this scope and I will notify Meade of the purchase with a letter requesting the transfer of the Sky Assurance policy to the buyer's name and address.

4. It has an excellent, improved Meade Red Dot finder -- Not that silly, useless red-dot finder with the big plastic "eyeglass lens" that was on the original Premium Edition scopes. This is a real, usable red-dot finder that is only available on the current ETX Premium Edition line.

5. It has been gently and carefully used. It truly is in all-around pristine condition. You will not find a finer ETX instrument out-of-the-box, directly from Meade.

I could go on and on about how great it is. Why am I selling it? I'm looking to move into a different type of scope and don't require the ultimate portability of this scope any longer.
