UPDATED - Robert Royce 8-Inch F6 Pyrex Primary Mirror - Free CONUS Shipping

I am offering an F6 Robert Royce 8-inch primary mirror for sale.

This mirror was originally figured by the late R.F. Royce and was purchased new in the early 2000s. Included with the sale is a copy of the original Astromart advertisement from 2002 describing the mirror and its specifications. I do not have the original Royce test report or interferometric documentation.

According to the original advertisement, the mirror features:

• 8-inch diameter, it appears to be Serial Number 152

• Approximately 1.95-inch thick Pyrex blank

• Enhanced aluminum coating

• Strehl ratio reported as at least 0.96

• Better than 1/10-wave at the wavefront

• Better than 1/20-wave P-V on the wavefront

The mirror has never been used during my ownership, and to the best of my knowledge, has never been installed in a telescope. Unfortunately, it was not stored under ideal conditions by a previous owner.

Condition:

• No obvious chips or edge damage.

• Optical surface remains highly reflective and produces sharp reflections.

• The coating shows scattered pinholes and deterioration visible when the mirror is strongly backlit.

• To my eyes, the mirror still presents very well, but prospective buyers should assume that recoating may eventually be desirable depending on their requirements.

• Center spot is installed.

I have attempted to photograph the coating condition as accurately as possible, including backlit images showing the pinholes and reflective images showing the overall surface quality. Please review the photos carefully and feel free to contact me with questions or requests for additional images.
