This is a very hard to find 6.5" DGM off-axis reflector. Unlike virtually all other reflecting telescopes, this one has the secondary mirror "off axis" so there is no obstruction in the light path. The process involves taking a much larger "parent" mirror and cutting it into asymmetric pieces. This unique process gives this scope the high contrast of a refractor, and color-free views of a reflector. That's what makes it so special!

The OTA is large -- 65" long and 10" wide, but very light -- it weighs just 21 lbs. due to the carbon fiber tube. While much more expensive than fiberglass, carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter. Therefore, this tube could easily work on many equatorial mounts.

The scope's dobsonian base is very nicely constructed using Atlantic birch plywood. It weighs 32 lbs., but is on wheels so transports easily. The hinged cradle makes it simple to adjust the rotation of the scope when needed for comfortable viewing, and to rebalance the scope if you change from a heavy eyepiece to a much lighter one.

I've owned this scope for nearly 20 years. The mirror is in great condition, with no scratches or wear, and sits in a highly-ventilated cell [for improved cool down times]. The 2 speed, two inch JMI focuser is a dream to use. A Telrad finder & base is not shown but is included. The scope gives great views, and everything is in really good condition.

There's a thorough review on Cloudynights you may want to take a look at [titled "DGM OA-6.5 (Off-axis Newtonian"].  If you message me, I can send you a pdf of a review of the 4" scope that was in Astronomy magazine, along with some higher resolution photos of my scope.

I'm only selling to finance other aspects of this great hobby -- my wife insists that one scope has to leave before another arrives... A small refractor would be considered as a partial trade; should you happen to have one, please let me know!  Pickup in Little Rock is preferred, but I can ship at the buyer's expense.

I'm new to selling here, but check out my 100% positive feedback on ebay -- drshughes.

Note that these scopes are no longer made and -- due to complexity and cost -- may never be made again.
