I have 2 refractors for sale that need to find new observing homes. I use several other scopes almost exclusively when I have time to observe so these are not getting used enough.
The first is an Orion 80mm ED F7.5 doublet refractor with some accessories and upgrades. It is about 20 years old and I purchased it in 2016. Its in great shape and rarely used. It comes with rings, vixen plate, Orion finder scope, and I upgraded the visual back with a scopestuff one which has a brass compression ring. Also, I put some scopestuff glow in the dark tape on the rings and focuser knobs which is helpful in the dark. I flocked the inside of the Dew shield with protostar flocking paper to cut down stray reflections even more. This scope was originally purchased by Stellarvue way back in the early days of the company and I purchased it directly from them. The lens is very clean and properly aligned. Star test and images are good. I have a Takahashi FC-100 and a Stellarvue 80mm APO triplet I use frequently so it obviously very difficult to compete with those types of world class optics! This Orion ED would make a fine grab and go scope for anyone needs or wants a second scope that doesn't require a hefty mount for support. I can ship this anywhere in the lower 48 and I will be happy to cover half the shipping cost with a buyer. $300
The second is an Apogee 6-inch F8 achromat refractor. I purchased this one in the summer of 2004 and used it off and on for a while before acquiring a Discovery 8-inch F/8 Dob reflector. This scope is farely big, long and heavy at about 20lbs. It needs a good mount minimum like a well balanced Orion Skyview pro mount which I used it on. It excells at observing DSOs and even on the moon and planets, although a good minus violet filter like Baader fringe killer helps a lot. When I use a 120mm mask on it It really shows the moon and planets even better and at F10 will handily smoke those other short F5 achros out there. Of course other aperature masks can be used and yes I have used a 3-inch mask on it and then stars are needle sharp and free from color like in a classical long focus Unitron scope. The scope includes the mounting cradle with plate that came with it, finder scope, dew shield and cap. Also, the lens can be collimated by the user if needed. I prefer local pickup but shipping will be at buyers expense on this one. $225 SOLD
Pics available on request as they wouldn't upload to site, thanks for looking.
