I am selling my Explore Scientific AR102, a fantastic 4-inch (102mm) achromatic refractor telescope. This is a great grab-and-go scope for observers who want a portable, high-quality instrument with very solid views of the moon, planets, and a wide range of deep-sky objects. The AR102 has a focal length of 663mm and a fast f/6.5 focal ratio. The air-spaced doublet lens is fully multi-coated, providing bright, high-contrast images. While achromatic refractors have a bit of chromatic aberration (false color) on very bright objects, it is well-controlled. I am including a a Yellow #8 1 1/4" and a 1 1/4 inch contrast filter that will aid in reducing the chromatic aberration.
This telescope is in very good condition. I am the original owner and have owned it for almost 10 years now. The optics are clean and have been well-maintained. There are a few minor scuffs on the tube and one on the dew shield that are very minor and that do not affect performance. I am selling it since I have acquired a TeleVue 101 and an Evostar 100mm ED.
I am including with the sale the following: Explore Scientific AR102 Optical Tube Assembly (OTA); 2-inch Two-Speed Focuser with 1.25" adapter; 9x50 Orion Straight-through Finder Scope which was on my old XX14i and provides higher magnification than the stock 8x50 straight through (I have the orginally and can replace this one with the orginial); 99% Reflective 2-inch Dielectric Diagonal; Cradle Rings with Handle; Vixen-style Dovetail Plate; Front and rear dust caps; Extra dovetail with Red Dot Finder; Carrying case ; 1 1/4" Light Yellow fitler ; 1 1/4" Contrast Fringe Killer Filter.
I have really enjoyed this scope and have some fun memories with it. However with my newly acquired NP101 and 100ED Sky-Watcher Evostar I won't be using it.
Local pickup preferred. Can ship but packaging will be done by professional packing company and paid by buyer as well as shipping and all fees. CONUS only please. Price $300.00
