TMB LZOS 175 F/8 APO Refractor
I’m selling my TMB 175, #029, which I’ve owned since about 2005. Includes a feather touch focuser that works with any 2” accessory. The OTA is binocular-viewer friendly. When looking through the scope, the contrast of everything is exceptional. I would always get comments like “this is the best I’ve ever seen it” whenever it was set up.
After sunrise this scope provides the best view for observing atmospheric phenomena, including the green edge. When using a Baader Astro Solar or a Baader Herschel Wedge, granulation on the surface and sunspots reward low, moderate, and high magnification. I’ve used the scope when viewing and photographing both total and annular eclipses. The transit of Venus, in 2012, was sharp and included a brief backlit view of the atmosphere as it approached the limb of the Sun.
Galaxies worth viewing are M31 and companions, M32, M51, M81, M82, M104, NGC4565. Other memorable views include planetary nebula such as the Dumbbell, Helix, Ring Nebula, Dark Nebulae, binary stars (Sirius B, Cor Caroli, Mizar, Eta-Cas, Gamma1-Leo), rings and disk of Saturn with moons (looking 3D), Great Red Spot, white ovals and belts of Jupiter, and subtle detail on Mars, globular clusters (favorites include M13, M2, M5, M22), open clusters, and the phases of Venus. The sliver crescent moon continuing through all phases is sharp with excellent contrast. In summary, everything looks exceptional in this scope.
The TMB 175 is pictured with a 48” Parallax pier and HD150 mount that I will also be selling. Pier and HD150 mount are an additional $5500.
The $11,000 price includes only the telescope and the ScopeGuard box. Size of box is roughly 14” x 14” x 56”. The optics of the scope are flawless, the OTA has a few scratches. The lens cap of the dew cap has some wear.
