I am offering up for sale the beautiful Zeiss C138/110 refractor.
As reported by Giuliano Tallone on his Zeiss Astro page, the Zeiss C 138/1140 lens has the
serial number 19719. According to the Zeiss production register, it is one of the few
telescope lenses produced by Zeiss in 1948 (this one is dated March 12, 1948),
and the second after a "zweiliges sonderobjectiv 150/2300 mm",
produced in November 1947, during the reactivation of the Zeiss factory after the Soviet
occupation: it is interesting to better understand what happened in this remote period in
the history of Zeiss telescope production. "In Jena, Zeiss and Schott were dismantled by
the Russian military forces down to a negligible residual stock of 6%.
Materials and personnel were transported to the USSR. It is also possible that the
strange 1:8.3 indication on the side of the lens (which indicates the focal ratio),
which is non-standard for Zeiss telescope lenses, may be due to an atypical situation
within the Zeiss factory at the time. In the register, this lens is listed as
"Objectiv 138/1140". The lens was masterfully tubed by Andrea Tamanti,
who also equipped it with a modern 2" Baader Steeldrive focuser with a 1" 1/4 reducer.
The tube allows for the insertion of a binocular viewer and,
with the appropriate 2" extension (supplied), for focusing both with and without a 2"
diagonal prism. The dovetail plate uses the Losmandy standard, bringing the total
weight of the telescope to just over 14 kg. The extremely rare Zeiss finder is also
noteworthy. Note: Some photos courtesy of Giuliano Tallone
