Research quality 14.25-inch Ritchey -Chretien scope from Optical Guidance System for sale. This is the best scope I have owned so far, and it produces stunning images. I wouldn’t be selling this scope if not for a full redesign of my image train.
Key Features: It has Star Instruments (Paul Jones) zero expansion mirror, magnetic levitation fans and carbon fiber body. The scope also includes RCOS Precision Instrument Rotator (PIR), built in secondary mirror focuser and RCOS Telescope Interface Module (TIM). This scope has a focal ratio of f/8 and 2895 mm focal length.
Condition: The scope and all major items included are in very good condition with minor signs of use. There is some dust on the mirror but nothing that impacts the image quality. The construction quality of this scope is excellent.
Included with this sale:
- OGS 14.25 RC scope (listed as 14.5 on OGS site) – Over $17,000
- RCOS Precision Instrument Rotator (PIR) - $2,950
- RCOS Telescope Interface Module (TIM) - $2,450
- Built in Precision Secondary Mirror focuser
- Takahashi collimation scope SKU: TKA00443 - $354
- Astrophysics 2" Adapter with Brass Locking Ring (ADA2003A)
- Dew shield
- Power brick for TIM and USB cable
Selling Price: MSRP would be over $22K. Selling at over 65% discount at $7650 (over $14k in savings) for a Ritchey-Chretien scope.
Service from OGS: This scope is rare to find given the retention rate of OGS or RCOS RC scopes in general. OGS like RCOS no longer make RC scopes, but they fully service their scopes based out of their PA facility. Alternatively RCOS (Deep Sky Instruments) also services these scopes and parts.
Sample Images: The images of Crescent, Elephant trunk are unprocessed Ha stacks, and Iris Nebula is unprocessed red filter stack. All images are from my light polluted NJ backyard – used AP1600 mount with encoders, FLI 16803 and Astrodon 3nm filters. Those items will be on sale as well.
Collimation: This scope holds collimation quite well. Collimation is easy with the included Tak collimator scope and on average it takes me about 10 mins. I can guide you through collimation if required.
Size & Shipment: This is a big scope (approximately 40 inches in length and 17 inches dia) and I prefer pick-up unless the buyer can arrange shipping. I wouldn’t recommend shipping this scope. You are welcome to pick-up, or I can meet mid-way within reasonable commute distance in the northeast area.
