Own your own astronomical Summit!  These properties are only a few miles from the McDonald Observatory.  They share the same dark skies and almost the same elevation.  Three unique properties, one price.  Located in sparsely populated SW Texas west of Fort Davis about 30 to 45 minutes to town for shopping, etc.   Incredible dark skies and brilliant Milky Way.  Property “A” is about 5 acres located on top of Apache Mountain, elevation 6400 feet.  This property has 120 mile line of sight to the south and incredible views all the way around.  No building restrictions.  No nearby neighbors.  Has commercial electric power and wireless internet available if desired.  Omega Centauri  is 10 degrees above the horizon.  Has a rare view of a portion of the Southern Cross visible near the southern horizon, which is actually at a negative angle from horizontal due to the elevation advantage.

Property “B” is adjacent to property #1.  This one is also 5 acres or so and has a rustic two bedroom one bath cabin on it.  The cabin has metal siding and a metal roof.  There is a 60 foot guyed tower set up for ham radio use.  The local wireless internet company uses the tower as a hub for their internet service.  You can make a deal with them for upgraded service, free electricity or whatever you can think up.  Or you can ask them to leave.  It is your tower.

Both of these properties should be accessed with a real four wheel drive vehicle (has low range gearing) due to steep grades.  The cabin has a 1000 gallon water storage tank and pressure pump for potable water.  You will need to haul your own water or pay a service to deliver water to you.  Water is available at the base of the mountain at no charge.  The metal roof could be used to collect rainwater if you so desired.  There is a septic tank on site for the cabin.  The cabin is on commercial AC power.

Property “C” is also about 5 acres and is located at the base of the mountain.  This one has a 2000 sq ft Quonset style building on a concrete slab.  There is commercial power and wireless internet available at this location as well.  This property can be accessed with any vehicle that can be driven on maintained gravel roads.  We drove a Miata in and out with no problem.  The building is plumbed for water and sewer and has conduits installed for cables to an installed heavy duty tower or telescope base.  There are also conduits for water, sewer, and communication cables under the road to access additional potential building sites on this property.  There is presently no water at this site, but all neighbors have good water wells, so it should be easy to drill one.  You can also haul water from the neighborhood well if you desire.  This property does not have the low horizon that the other two do, but it is also in a very dark area with great dark skies.

The general idea is to use the lower property to store your 4wd vehicle.  You then drive to the lower property and switch vehicles for the trip up the mountain.  The lower property is also set up to build a new home and then use the cabin on the upper property for Ham Radio or Astronomy, guest cabin, retreat, etc.   It is also a great place to park your RV while visiting your Astronomical hideaway.

All properties are subject to an HOA.  There are no building restrictions.  The HOA is primarily responsible for road maintenance.

Asking $200,000 for all.  If you want to separate the properties, then $75,000 for the property “A” on top of the mountain, $75,000 for the mountaintop cabin (property “B”), and $100,000 for the lower property (“C”) with the Quonset style barn.  Video of the property:  Contact us for link.
