From my back yard I have a large arc of sky to explore but because of trees I can not see the north star. Is there a way to get the alignment using two bright stars manually, like the GPS units apparently do? (orion 8" reflector)

Hi Ed,
This is just a thought...you could use a compass to get a rough polar alignment then drift align on a star to get a final alignment.

Best regards,
