I have noticed an onslaught of Classified Ads and some auctions, by people that are selling off the items that they got from the OPT auction when they went out of business. I wonder how many buyers here understand that they are really not buying "new" items. They will actually be third time buyers (owners). The 1st buyer was the auction house, the second being the person that won the auction and the 3rd being the person that they sold it to. As such there will be no warranty on the product and many of the sellers are unaware that a portion of what they are selling might not be "new" anyways. One member shows a picture with the label on it that has a "UT" code on it. OPT used the "UT code" to indicate that they are returned items or trade ins. UT stands for "Used Telescopes". It seems that in order to protect the potential buyers that these sellers should state their return policy if they have one (I doubt it), and the fact that they have no warranty when they are making the "Brand new" claim. I know that it is "buyer beware", but I also know that AM works hard to keep the site legitimate. No disrespect intended, but this kind of activity has the potential to degrade this site, IMHO. The sellers have no history with the item and can make no statement about the functionality of the product, and are only doing it to turn a profit. Hmm, sounds like a business to me. Do they have a re-sale license? Are they a sponsor of AM? This is just food for thought and I was wondering if this is of any concern to anyone else? At a bare minimum, buyers, please be aware of the limitations of the product warranties and the fact that you will not have any support for the item, so please be careful and offer/bid accordingly.
Thanks
