Adjusting the Takahashi FS Series 4-inch Focuser

I am looking for directions or guidance on the adjustment of the Takahashi FS Series 4-inch focuser. Initially, it was somewhat difficult to rack outward, but nearly impossible to rack inward. Removing dried grease and replacing it with white lithium grease made it easier to adjust, but still rough, uneven and difficult to rack in. Tinkering with the 4 set screws and the rack height has helped, but I was still not able to get the focus to be smooth and reasonably effortless in both directions. It is my hope that someone here has had some success at this and would share just what they did. I realize that there are FT and Moonlite replacements, but would like to keep the scope stock if possible.

Thanks,

Bob

I spoke with the optical technician at Takahashi USA, who provided some insight and suggestions for moving forward. I completely dissembled the focuser, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. It now works about as good as one would expect for a high quality scope. Focus action is smooth and even in both directions.
