Advice on Quesar Telescope Wanted

Hi I recently inherited a Quesar telescope from my dad. I am not into astronomy so I am thinking about trying to sell it.

I am hoping someone could tell me how I can go about determining its sale value. I believe it is about 30 years old and as far as my untrained eye can tell it is in good working order. It has a carrying case and some accessories, which I would be happy to list if that is important.

Also, I have perused some quesar classified ads here on astromart and some sellers have had their telescopes cleaned/recalibrated/checked out before sale. Is this something I should consider doing?

Ive attached a picture of the specs that are written on the telescope. Here links to additional photos:

Thanks very much in advance for any help!

The little Questars are very good, but have been improved over the years. So the age of the scope and the age of the technology are against you. They are somewhat collectable. If everything's there and in good shape, I think you could ask $2000 and make a sale. I'd start there and back down if necessary. List everything, the Brandon eyepieces are also very good.

However... it is so very portable... Pick up a copy of Astronomy or Sky & Telescope for this month's star chart. Drive out to a dark site. Look up and you might like just it.

Keeping that scope might not get you any cash, but you'd have about the best starter scope around, and it takes up less space than most carry on bags.

There's my two cents, wink

I own several telescopes, none of them the "high end" commercial models that people spend several thousand dollars for. My 40-year old Questar is far and away the best made telescope I have, with superlative mechanical and optical qualities, and is superior in several respects to the expensive refractors I've seen. Its only limitation is an aperture of only 3.5 inches.
Questar also makes a 7-inch model. Check to see if that's the one you have. Its resale value should be correspondigly greater.
If your old Questar is a 3.5-inch model that has been maintained in reasonable working order, it can be sent to the Questar factory in New Hope, PA, for a full reconditioning that costs about $600. A flawless old 3.5-inch Questar should fetch at least $2,000 in the resale market.
