I'd like to purchase a 2x Barlow lens to use with my Meade 4000 series Plossl eyepieces. I see where Orion has their "Shorty Plus" 3 element 2x Barlow on sale and would like some feedback about this accessory. Are there any Barlows other than this model from Orion, under $100, that are recommended? Thanks.

David,
This is a decent barlow which I believe is the same as the Celestron Ultima barlow.

I have had the Orion Shorty Plus for a little more than a year, and I would definitely recommend this barlow. It is very clear and sharp, I don't notice any difference when using it other than a higher magnification. It only requires about 1/4 inch focuser movement (in) when switching from an eyepiece to barlow/eyepiece.
It is not threaded for filters, if that is a consideration for you.

Celestron's Ultima and Meade's #140 both get good reviews too, but with the sale Orion's is the best deal right now. All three are APO barlows. Get the Orion, and let us know what you think. My bet is you will like it.

Antares carries the same 3 element barlow, less the grip ring, for a lower price.
