Building a mount - Engineering Questions?

I am going to embark on building a german equatorial mount. Does any one have a good source for practical engineering questions associated with building a telescope mount? a good book or someone willing to look at drawings and give suggestions? Maybe comments from some others who have built a mount and lessons learned?
Thanks
Anthony

Anthony,

John Davis makes custom GEM's. He has a Yahoo group that he uses for most communication:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Gemini-Instruments/

He is a right friendly fellow and may be able to help you out. Here's a picture of his 125 lbs capacity mount on a portable pier he made.

The article by Russell W. Porter of long ago in Amateur Telescope Making (Book I) is well worth digging up. Don't, however, pay attention to the idea that a solid mount has to be massive.
