C14 and G11

Hi all. I am in the early stages of shopping for a new scope. I am considering the C14 Celestron on a G-11 mount with a 90mm refractor for wide field shots. I intend to use it heavily for astrophotography, and was wondering if the G-11 is robust enough to support the weight of this tube, the dovetail plate, refractor and camera set up. Any thoughts?

I think the C14 alone would be pushing the G11 to its capacity for photography. Fine for visual use but when you add a quality 90mm refractor and all the other goodies you'll need it will probably be over its weight capacity for photo work. Yea, you might be able to make due but if your really serious I think a more robust mount is in order. Look into the Mountain Instruments line or an AP 900/1200.

Hi Mike. I used the C14-G11 for 2 years. Excellent visually, but not good for CCD work. Just not heavy duty enough for good long exposures. I now have an AP1200 and it is an outstanding combo with the C14. If you really want to do good CCD work, get the 1200 or equivalent...Ken
