I am slowly attempting a c14 binoscope project. Anyone out there with experience on this?

Pardon me for being negative, but why not a 20" and a binoviewer? Same light gathering power and much simpler. The only real advantage I can see to a binoscope is at low magnifications where you can get a wider field of view without exceeding the maximum exit pupil.
I would love to have a 14" binoscope but can't justify the money to buy one or the time to build one. Good luck, it should be a fascinating project!

I was considering a C8 project but quickly abandoned it because I didn't think I could extend the focal point that far past the rear cell. I'd be interested in the hardware you will be using to bring the image that much further behind the C14. Mine was to be a low cost attempt with diagonals and adjusting the inter-pupillary distance with sliding components on the respective nosepieces. It quickly became apparent to me that only a very expensive 'lightpipe' setup would work. At that point it seemed the larger OTA and binowiewer option made much more sense. Light loss through the glass required, and vignetting (at both the secondary baffle and main baffle tube) due to the primary being up near the forward limits of it's focus range, made it not worth it IMHO.

"ball style" 114mm f/4.5, camping/kids scope

Hello, it's been awhile since we last spoke. It's nice to see you are still experimenting! When I had my C14, the thought of a Bino occurred to me also, but once I began thinking about how to do this and not breaking the bank I decided my binoviewers would be adequate. My plan was to take a tube (I have a second empty tube for experimenting) to a machine shop and shorten it and the baffle tube. I never settled on a cut, but 5 or 6 inches was what I was looking at. BTW, if you want the spare C14 tube I have, it's yours for the taking, but you'll probably have to drive near here to get it, although I am planning a day trip to NJ in the next couple of months. Good luck and keep us posted on your results.
