Cases...Inexpensive (but good) options?

Hey everyone. I've spent the last month or so identifying and purchasing my setup.

Ended up with a Celestron C9.25 + CG5-GT + two 2" eyepieces + two 1.25" eyepieces + T-adapter + full solar filter, etc.

I'm trying to determine what are good options for cases. I won't be traveling on a plane, but will be carrying them in a car, etc.

As you all surely know, cases can be crazy expensive! But, I'm thinking that some of you have found some good alternatives that provide good storage/protection, but don't cost so much money!!!

Thanks,
Mike

Check out the Rubbermaid storage containers at Wal Mart. THey offer good value when combined with a chunk of foam from your local Plastics store. Cut in the right places with an electric knife, they can save you a lot of money. (Still expensive, but not as much as the custom cut.

A stanley "fat max" case will hold an 8" SCT + foam padding. A 9.25"? cant say, but you should look at one.

Sterlite plastic cases with snap on lids and carry handle are also good for accessories. Add thin foam to the bottom and sides with double-sided tape.

Tripod - try an old golf club bag minus the crossbars.

Eyepieces and such - any pluck foam case works great.

For the scope I'd look to Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xgg/R-100672734/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

For the eyepiece case the small plastic toolboxes make for decent, weather resistant cases for carrying eyepieces. The toolboxes are probably the best option as they will typically have a tray/organizer to hold filters, a flashlight, extra batteries and any other items you might bring along. Those small lunch-pail sized coolers sold a Wal-Mart and many Sporting Goods stores and the small Sterilite plastic boxes are also good inexpensive solutions.

I have purchased individual bolt cases to protect the EP's when they are traveling and in storage. These eliminate the need to mess with foam cutouts and do a better job keeping dust & debris off the eyepieces. I just toss them in the case I'm carrying at the time.
