I sent my parents a Celestron Astromaster 70AZ the other day so that they could do some occasional moonwatching, very casual astronomy, and some terrestrial observing. I figured that the erect image diagonal would make it easy for them to find and see things. My mom was able to put it together very quickly without any problems and my dad was able to look at staked plants about 150 yards away and tell that they were secured with green twist ties from bread. I've only read the outside of the telescope box, but they seem pretty happy with it so far. They seemed impressed by the construction of the scope and the ease of assembly and use. My mom is also glad that it's pretty light so that she can take it out into the backyard without any problems. It's a promising start. I'll have to check it out when I go down to visit sometime in the next month or two. This might be a good choice for very casual observers or kids who want the versatility of terrestrial observing as well.

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.
