Digital drive system question

Greetings
I need some advice from fellow Astromarters.

I have an old Losmandy G11 mount equipped with a Celestron Digital drive system #492. I remember hearing about possibility of attaching an autoguider to the hand controller port with some sort of gadget.
Does anyone have any info on how this can be done? Is it possible to plug both the hand controller and the guider on the same port by some device or via some magic wiring? If so where can I get this thing?

Thanks for any advice!
Alper
ps: I use both MaximDL and CCDSoft for imaging (and hopefully autoguiding)

Sure, it is as simple as your local hardware store or Radio Shack or electronics wharehouse.

You need a plug that has two six conductor RJ11 (I can never remember what RJ # is--it might be RJ45 or something) female input jacks and one RJ11 (45?) male output plug. They sell them as "telephone couplers" or "Splitters" and are common enough to come in a blister pack at your local store.

Just take your hand controller in to the store and tell them what you want. Plug your hand controller into one of the female jacks just to make sure it fits right. It will. The plastic plugs on these things come in just a few standard sizes (called RJxx).

The thing you have to be sure of is that you get the SIX conductor version. They sell these things in two, four, and six conductors.

Now, this should work fine. One little problem you might have is that they double the width that you need to plug in your device. And this causes a problem with the power cord in the very next plug on the digital drive faceplate. You cannot get the power plug in because the splitter is in the way. You can solve this in a couple of ways. One is to buy a splitter that is top/bottom instead of side by side. Another is to buy a six conductor extension cord (either with a built in splitter or a single jack for a separate splitter). A third solution is to plug the power cord from the G-11 into the out plug instead of the in plug. (I've never tried that solution, but I have heard it many times.)

And, be sure your autoguider can communicate directly with your G-11 before you plug it in. The ST-4 can. The ST-7 cannot. As a matter of fact, the ST-7 can fry things if you try.

What are you trying to plug in?
