I am looking to purchase a goto or push to Dob hopefully with an integrated star database and not in need of a computer , however if this is a severe limitation I would consider adding a laptop for goto. I am looking for the following specifications:
1. Price range between 4 to 6K
2. F range between 4.5 and 6
3. Very high quality optics
4. Aperature between 12 to 18 inch
5. A no one component to exceed 60 lbs.
6. LAST i would consider a kit since i have good skill in machine tool and carpentry

If you're willing to build a kit, you can try an Astrosystems Telekit. I'd put a Royce primary mirror into it, and an Antares or Protostar diagonal. Add a SkyCommander (no laptop needed) and your choice of finder (e.g., Telrad) and you're set.

Total cost, including shipping, for a 12.5" setup would be about $3200. A 15" would come in at about $4100, and a 16" at $4800.

Have fun,

Duane
