Does anyone still make a reasonably priced 5" ED?

I remember Meade and Orion offering them a while back.

Thanks

Meade used to make one, not sure Orion ever did, I don't think any of the Vixens they sold were 5 inchers.

There is a Meade in the works and Orion has one on the market but the level of color correction has not been resolved. The Orion scope is a 120mm F/7.5 doublet which is not in line with their previous ED/APO's and scopes that are apparently the same, ie the 120mm F/7.5 Skywatchers, seem to have noticeable false color.

The Orions are $1999.

The TEC 140 is probably the most reasonably priced large APO refractor that you can get without a long backorder time (I've never, ever read a bad review of this scope) and I believe there is a new TMB 130 for less than $4,000.

While not of the build quality of a TV, Tak, or TMB, from what I have read, people seem to be pleased with the Orion 80mm APO, so the 120mm might be expected to perform as well.

I just bought a Meade 127mm ED here used, but actually new in box! grin It came with everything including a pretty nice LXD650 mount with all the trimmings. There was everything needed to use the scope. 2" UHTC Diagonal to full Go-To.

The cost was about what the Orion 120mm ED OTA cost alone without a mount. diagonal or polar alignment scope or anything.

Close. Orion just began offering a 120 ED for about $2,000.00.
