DSC's for G11?

I would just like to have a coordinate readout from my G-11 since I'm getting back into CCD imaging. I'm confused about the few options available: The Losmandy encoders(with an extra $85 to get the gear covers) are very expensive. For $419, I could buy the JMI NGC Micro-MAX Complete Installation Kit (computer included!). The JMI website states: "G11, G8 mounts must have a flat or groove machined into the shafts."
I bought my G11 new in 2002 (seriel# HGM301077027), it has flats with setscrew holes on the body of the frame- but not the shafts. I found a reference somewhere that Losmandy changed the design in 2002. My question is would the JMI setup work, or can I modify the shafts or something to make it work? I don't want to spend $1600 to get the Gemini- I'll just plan a nights imaging and record the RA/DEC before I go out.
Thanks for any advise!
Brian
