:S Hi: :S

Can I utilize the Meade 8 x 50mm ViewFinder for my Meade ETX-90 Telescope or would I have to do modifications?

At the same time, could I use an Orion ViewFinder or would I have to do modification?

To use an 8x50 you would need to somehow figure out how to mount it, the EXT is pretty weak that way. The normal solution is the little 8x25 right angle finder, it fits right on and since the ETX is not going to excel at faint DSOs, the 8x25 is a pretty good match.

Hi Larry:

I use a 9x50 RACI finderscope from Orion. It is attached to an Orion dovetail base plate and an Orion tube ring with a 100 mm ID as you can see from the photo. You need to do slight modification as follows:
1) drill a hole at the center of the base plate for connecting the base plate to the tube ring by a 1/4" bolt.
2) Since the inside diameter of the ETX90 OTA is slightly larger than the ID of the tube. You need to replace the tube ring fastener by a longer bolt.

That is all. Hope this helps.
