Focal Plane Placement

I'm building a 16" f/4.5 dob. NEWT recommends placing the focal plane at 1/4" below the top of the focuser when fully racked in. I'm looking for confirmation of this recommendation, or alternate recommendations. Thanks!

Yeah, that will work. The issue is one of being sure that you pick the right eyepiece to check with. Take out all the eyepeices you have. Find which one focuses closest to the tube. This is the one you wnat to use as your guide. Also be careful you allow for use of a Para-corr if you ever plan to do that.

By the way, you may get more hits down in the telescope maker forum.
