Help with alignment problem NS11

Help,
I have had two trips to open fields with my NS11 where it has been unable to GPS align. I aim it at the ground and turn it on like a good boy and here is what happens:
1.Turns back and forth to find north and does so.
2. Says "slewing to Vega" and does so. When it gets there it has the azimith almost perfectly, but the altitude is only about 3/5's of the way from horizon to Vega. I go ahead and center use the arrows to get to Vega, even though I know it is a long way. Do the enter and align steps.
3. It then says "slewing to Arcturus and again turns azimith almost perfectly but again is only about 3/5's the way up on the required altitude setting.
4. I again use the controller to go ahead and center Arcturus with the enter and align sequence. When finished it of course reports that the alignment failed.
The second time I did this I had it go to Antares instead of Arcturus and the scope pointed below thew horizon (Anatares was low in the sky to the south.) Thinking the time may have been off and I did not notice it I used undo to get it to use Polaris--same thing. I went ahead and did some star hopping with the hand controller and the Rigel and finder, but this is a pretty expensive star hopper. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
I am going to post this on a couple of forums to see if I can someone who has had this problem and figured it out.

Thanks

Rather than point it down to the ground, try pointing it about 15° down from horizontal. Make sure the clutch is fully engaged and I usually level my tripod before hanging the scope.
Just do this in your yard, you should be able to find the two alignment stars ok.
If this doesn't work, then it has a problem and will have to be sent back to Celestron for repair.
