Finally a clear night and the Jet Stream is directly overhead. cwy The stars look like a Christmas tree. :S

I'd say welcome to Colorado, too... wink You certainly have my sysmpathy, Floyd.

The jet stream has been overhead here for the past week or two, limiting observing to lower magnifications--when it's been clear. >sad

Once a few months ago when the jet stream was directly overhead, seeing was so bad one could not even make out craters on the moon. 8O Thankfully, it's not like that all the time.

I agree with you Floyd :C I live in the upper desert (2500ft). It is known for clear skies (Lancaster, CA) but the "seeing" here is average at best. Add the jet stream to that and it's not even worth setting up. When Rigel is bloated out to it's companion in an 80mm refractor (my seeing tester) then you know it's not worth setting up the "big gun". Being a lunar planetary observer sucks here. I've been keeping observing logs since "79". Not a whole lot of great lunar/planetary nights to talk about in them. I will trade your seeing in Bakersfield for the poop seeing we get here except when your fog sets in wink BTW, it was 19 degrees at 6:00 this morning. Yep, it's winter sad

In the midwest, this is a constant problem. 2006 has been the worst year ever for seeing conditions in my area. I use the Clear Sky Clock alerts, set at a modest setting, to keep track of above average conditions. Usually I get aboput 45 hits, this year 7. ;0(
