Large Light Telescopes

I am looking to upgrade aperture from a 4" refractor. Does anyone have any suggestions on any 10"+ telescopes, of any design, whose OTAs might weigh under 20 lbs or so?

I would like to keep the new scope on my GM8 mount, if possible, so that the entire rig is relatively portable. (Yes - I know that stated capacity for the GM8 is 30 lbs, but once you add mounting rings, finders, eyepieces, etc. you can get there quickly.)

Thank you and clear skies!

Honestly, I am unaware of any make of telescope 10" or bigger that is going to be under the weight you are talking about by a long shot. Heck there aren't many 6" or 8" scopes that are going be under 30lbs. If you want something in that range then you need to consider a mount upgrade well before a scope upgrade.

Hello Cam & everyone,

One possibility is perhaps something like the UTI travel scope that Infinity sells (they are a sponsor, so check their link from the main page of ASTROMART) or just copy the stuff between quotes "www.infinityscopes.com" into your browser. I would like to have a large, light scope too, but wonder if the complexity of putting a truss design onto a GEM is really worth the hassle ?!?!?!?

Cheers,

Ed
