Lock for Bolt/Nut

I have a pier that I would rather not have stolen sitting out at a site in the desert. It is attached to the foundation with 3/4 inch (I think) J bolts.

How can one make sure that someone does not just come along and remove the nuts, and take the pier? Is there a lock for such a situation. I went to Home Depot, and looked, and found nothing obvious.

Alex: Maybe there is some non-automotive version of the device included with most luxury cars, the thing that you must place on top of one of the lug nuts on each wheel before you can use the lug nut wrench to remove or tighten that nut. I've never seen such a thing at Home Depot or any hardware store, but perhaps your local luxury car dealer can advise you about who manufactures or sells such devices.

Hey Alex,

I did just that several years ago. It was a pipe and plate I welded together and cemented the base into the ground 24.0".

It didn't last long! Somebody found it, saw they couldn't remove it easily, so they shot it several times with a rifle and ran over it with a vehicle!

I realised it was a magnet for knotheads and obviously didn't waste time making another one.

Sorry I don't have much positive information for you.

Thanks,
John
